- How did your company perform last month?
- How did that compare to your business plan or budget?
- How did the decisions you made last month affect your bottom line?
If you are the owner of a small business, you know the importance of accurate and timely financial information in managing your business and protecting your investment. Without this information, you do not have answers to important questions about the performance of your business. However, the cost of producing reliable and timely financial data can be staggering.
One solution is to hire a bookkeeper, but it can be difficult to fit the cost of even a part-time bookkeeper into the average small business budget. And that does not begin to include the additional overhead costs associated with hiring a new employee. Finally, finding a reliable bookkeeper with the experience that you need can be extremely difficult.
Another solution is for the business owner to spend his or her valuable time compiling financial information on their own. This takes away from the time that is necessary to manage the daily activity of your company and generate growth.
Our Bookkeeping Services group has a different answer. We combine trained bookkeepers with proven systems and software to give you the data you and your CPA need in time to make meaningful decisions, and we provide it at a cost that will fit into your budget.
EBC offers a number of bookkeeping solutions for the small business owner. We have designed packages which allow you to do as much or as little of the bookkeeping as you desire. These different service levels also allow you to find a package which will fit into just about any budget. Examples of some of our packages are outlined below:
If you want to continue to do your own bookkeeping, EBC offers on-site training services. Our consultant, for an hourly fee, will come to your place of business and answer questions related specifically to your bookkeeping system and software. We will provide training and make suggestions for improving your current system. After initial training, our staff is available on a continuing basis to provide support as necessary.
For the business owner who wants to continue to do their own bookkeeping, but would occasionally like a “second opinion,” EBC offers a "tune-up" service. Under this plan, business owners, on a monthly or quarterly basis, transmit their bookkeeping information to EBC. Our consultants will analyze the information and communicate any areas of concern or suggestions for improvement. This gives the business owner an added level of confidence that the information they are using is reliable. As with the On-Site Training, this service is priced on an hourly basis and is an inexpensive solution for improving the accuracy and reliability of your bookkeeping information.
For the business owner who wants to continue processing the day-to-day information but would like someone to close the books at the end of the month, reconcile accounts, and produce a useful report package, EBC offers a Month-end Close service. Under this plan, business owners transmit their general ledger data to our consultants at the end of each month. EBC then reconciles the accounts and makes the month-end adjusting journal entries. We will also work with you and your CPA to create a routine package of reports at the end of each month to help you manage your business. This allows you to continue recording the simple transactions, while receiving help with the more complex transactions that may arise.
For the business owner who wants to spend less time on bookkeeping and more on managing and growing their business, EBC offers a Full Service bookkeeping option. Under this option, EBC will record all of your day-to-day bookkeeping transactions, in addition to providing all of the services provided in Month-end Close. This includes processing accounts payable, writing signature ready checks, and processing billings to your clients. EBC will pick up and process your information as you schedule or the work can be done at your site, whichever you are most comfortable with.
The above is a list of the most popular options used by our current customers. We realize that every business is unique and will work with you to create a solution that fits the needs and budget of your business. For example, we can also do your budget and forecast preparation and provide or temporary Controllers and CFOs.
Whatever your bookkeeping or finance department needs may be, EBC strives to provide a reliable and cost-effective solution.
Enterprise Bank and EBC were founded by small business owners much like you. We have a wealth of experience in the start-up of new businesses. Our consultants are always available to answer questions and communicate our experiences as they relate to your situation.
These are only some of the services that we can provide during the start-up phase of your small business.
- Software Selection: Our staff has experience with many accounting software packages used in many different industries. We will work with you to help you select a package which best suits your business and budget.
- Accounting System Set-up: Once you have selected a software package, your EBC consultant will install and load your company’s specific data into the system or help your staff to do so. This includes the creation of your initial chart of accounts, entry of accounts payable and accounts receivable database information, and set-up of company preferences and initial account balances.
- Financial Reporting: EBC will interact with you and your CPA to create a routine package of financial reports. This will allow you and your accountant to receive the information necessary to run your business in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Budgeting and Planning: In order to track the performance of your new business, your EBC consultant can load your business plan and budget information into your software. By doing this, you can then set up reporting that will track actual results against plan.
EBC’s bookkeeping services are not intended to replace the services of your Certified Public Accountant (CPA). In fact, many of our clients are referred to us by local CPA firms. Our services are designed to work in conjunction with your CPA, so that you have comprehensive financial management solutions for your small business.
By providing timely and accurate bookkeeping information to your CPA firm, you are able to receive more value for the money you spend for accounting services, guidance, and advice. At the same time, you will have a greater confidence that the advice and planning you are receiving from your CPA is based on reliable, up-to-date data.
When your information is reliable, your CPA firm is able to spend extra time formulating the more complex strategic analysis that it was hired for—rather than spending valuable time verifying and correcting your general ledger.
It is the primary objective of our Bookkeeping Services Group to provide efficient, cost effective bookkeeping services. The sale of accounting software products is not a main focus of our business. While our staff has experience and training on a number of software products, we are able to adapt our systems to utilize our clients’ preferred software packages.
For clients who have not selected a software package, we can help identify the products that are available and the benefits and detriments of each. Upon selection of a bookkeeping software program, our staff can help with installation and set up so that you and your staff can get up and running quickly.
ATTENTION QUICKBOOKS® USERS: In order to better serve clients who use Intuit’s QuickBooks® software, EBC has become a certified member of the QuickBooks® Pro-Advisor program. Our staff has undergone formalized training and testing on QuickBooks products in order to obtain this certification. As members of the Pro-Advisor program, EBC is eligible for preferred pricing on new products and software updates. We pass that preferred pricing on to you.
If after reading the preceding pages you would like to obtain more information, the next step would be to schedule an initial consultation. This meeting is conducted free of charge and allows us to learn more about your business. The meeting usually consists of the following:
- A discussion about your business and the level of service that best fits your needs and budget.
- A look at your current bookkeeping system and software to assess its strengths and weaknesses.
- An analysis of your current trial balance and detailed general ledger, if available, to determine what types of transactions are currently being recorded and to provide a general assessment of the accuracy of those recorded transactions.
- A more detailed discussion of the services offered by EBC as they relate to your business.
We recommend that your CPA attend this initial meeting so that we can get feedback as to what information they would like to receive on a regular basis and what improvements in your bookkeeping system they would like to see take place. Following this initial consultation, we will present a detailed written recommendation, including an estimate of costs for our services.
